The LAX Sound Insulation Program and Your Roof
Westchester and neighboring Playa del Rey were the first project areas when LA World Airports started its Residential Sound Insulation Program in 1997, and more than 7,300 City of LA dwelling units near LAX were soundproofed before the program's original 2010 deadline. A 2020 FAA grant funded a "second chance" round in 2022 for homes in Council Districts 8 and 11, which include Westchester, plus El Segundo.
The program is a separate track from a roofing permit and isn't a substitute for roof maintenance. If your house went through it, tell the roofer before a tear-off, so any work already done to the building envelope is known up front.
